Psychotherapy

Encompass Health Centre Sunset Over RocksA key difference between Psychotherapy and Counselling lies in the recommended time required to see benefits. Counselling usually refers to a brief treatment that centres around behaviour patterns or relatively straight forward problems. Psychotherapy focuses on working with clients longer-term where the therapy focuses more on increasing the clients insight and their subsequent ability to take increased responsibility for themselves and their lives.

Psychotherapy is based on a therapeutic relationship which promotes the client to explore the way they think, how they feel, how they act and how they relate; which leads to an increased awareness of themselves, how to move through their difficulties and challenges, and feel resolved and clear within themselves.

Typical outcomes of Psychotherapy include:

  • Alleviation of anxiety, depression and anger
  • Ability to resolve conflict within relationships
  • Deeper and more satisfying relationships
  • Ability to express and negotiate your needs
  • Gain an empowered perspective on your behaviors, relationships and feelings
  • Become able to voice parts of yourself not previously acknowledged
  • A stronger sense of who you are - “self’
  • A heightened sense of meaning and purpose in your life
