What is counselling?
Counselling is based on a therapeutic relationship which promotes the client to explore the way they think, how they feel, how they act and how they relate; which leads to an increased awareness of themselves, how to move through their difficulties and challenges, and feel resolved and clear within themselves.
The aim of counselling is to foster wellbeing through personal growth, assisting clients to resolve crises and life problems through personal change, developing personal meaning and healing following loss and grief.
What is the counselling approach used at Encompass Health?
There are many theories and approaches to counselling. At Encompass Health, our counsellor is trained in a broad rannge of counselling and psychotherapy modalities. This allows his approach to fit and suit a broader range of clients and their challenges and issues. Robbie is trained in Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour therapy (CBD), Family Systems therapy, Client centred counselling, Systemic constellations and Neuro Emotional Technique.
What are the typical outcomes of counselling?
The outcomes are dependant on the issue being worked through and the history of the individual seeking counselling.
Although in broad terms, typical outcomes of counselling include:
- Reduction in anxiety, and clearer ways of managing ongoing anxiety.
- Understanding of ones anger and the ability to use anger appropriately.
- A sense of resolution in ones intimate relationships.
- A fuller understanding and acceptance of self.
- Gaining access to confidence and clarity of needs.
- To be able to cope with what was previously unmanageable.
- To gain control of and manage addictions.
