CHIROPRACTIC TECHNIQUES
Techniques.

SkeletonAt Encompass Health Centre several techniques may be utilised, ranging from the traditional adjustments to low force balancing techniques, as treatments are tailored to the individuals needs and within their comfort level. Some techniques adjust the skeleton and these vary from being done by hand or with the use of an activator. While others balance the muscles and function of the nervous system and physiology as a whole.

Muscle Testing
Muscle Testing is a tool of diagnosis. As nerves send energy and messages to muscles, any interference to the nerve (commonly by joint misalignment) will reduce the function of the muscle. Each muscle has its nerve supply coming from the same nerve or group of nerves in every person. So by testing the muscle and determining how well the muscle functions, much information is attained as to how the body is functioning, and what corrections need to be made to improve the function.

Adjustments
Chiropractic Adjustments are specific techniques of realigning the skeletal system. Any imbalance to the skeletal system will affect the movement of one bone with respect to its adjoining bone, ie the joint doesn't move freely and easily. To improve the movement at the joint an adjustment consists of a short sharp thrust or impulse to one bone in a specific direction to allow that joint to function normally and freely. The adjustment can be made with the hand or with a tool called an activator.

The adjustment does not hurt and is very safe. If it is done by hand, sometimes there will be a cracking sound. This sound is made but the change in pressure in the joint. There is a sudden decrease in pressure as there is more space in the joint, and with this decrease, the fluid in the joint suddenly becomes a gas. It is this change from liquid state to gas state that produces the noise.

Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology is a system of diagnosis and treatment based on this principle of nerve/muscle relationship. Testing specific muscles will give feedback as to exactly which nerve or group of nerves are being affected and therefore at which area of the spine there are changes to the biomechanics, and so where treatment needs to be focussed. This also uses a muscle technique, which can be very useful in injuries. We find which specific muscles aren’t working at their normal length and tension, which is commonly a result of a sprain or strain to a joint and muscles. The muscle is then reset to its correct tension.

Intraoral Cranials
The skull is made of many bones joined at sutures. It is a very solid structure, important for protection of our brain, but there needs to be very slight movement at these structures for normal circulation of fluids in the brain. Through bumps to head or tight muscles pulling on the skull because of neck and shoulder tension, or from grinding of teeth there can be a disruption to the movement within the skull. Intraoral cranial technique uses gentle pressure in specific directions to free up and normalise motion of the skull. This can help in the treatment of headaches, jaw pain, neck and shoulder pain.

Vector Point Cranials
Vector Point Cranials is a technique of using the skull and specific points on the skull to release soft tissue (namely the Dura) at specific levels of the spine. The Dura is like a thick skin that covers the brain and the spinal cord, and it attaches to the inside of the bony structures ie the skull and the spine. The Dura can tighten just as muscles can have an impact on the structure and alignment. These cranials can be utilised before an adjustment to soften an area and make the adjustment easier, or after making a structural adjustment to fine-tune and complete the adjustment, or even instead of.

Neuro Emotional Technique
Neuro Emotional Technique addresses emotional blockages that can occur in the body. It’s normal to have emotions, and usually we process them and get rid of them out of our body. With emotions there will be bodily changes, for example, with fear we have sweating, racing heart, dilated pupils etc, sometimes it also involves a bodily response of muscle pain and spasm. At times in our life we are not in the state to process them properly so then we store them. As an example, you can think back to a bad memory and it is just a memory, while other memories bring up a physical response that could feel like a nervous sensation or even a sick feeling. These are the stored emotions. Stored emotions can come to the surface at any time in response to a trigger. These triggers are different for each person and each case and often occur when no longer necessary and even inaproppriate. Any symptoms should be checked if there is any emotional component.
The technique involves muscle testing to determine what the trigger is, which emotion is involved, and then determine when there was the original time that this occurred and was stored to set up this pattern. Then by stimulating the body to process the emotion and therefore be rid of it so it no longer gives that reaction or inappropriate response.

Neurolink
Neurolink is a system of balancing the body and the physiological functioning of all its systems. The body is an amazing being that can repair and heal itself very efficiently. Sometimes due to various stressors it may not work at its optimum. Neurolink uses muscle testing to determine where there are areas of the physiology that aren’t working as ideally as it could be, and stimulates the brain and body to address these areas and so stimulates and promotes healing and normal functioning. It can be used as a treatment all on its own, or to complement and assist other treatments and adjustments. It can address imbalances in digestion, hormones, immunity, sleep patterns and moods. It also addresses how well organs, brain centers and the nervous system are functioning, and how effective our immune response is to virus, bacteria and fungus. It results to strengthen our body to stressors including emotional chemical and physical stress and allows your body to cope better with these stressors. Health care rebates do apply to these services. Different plans will rebate different amounts, anywhere from one-third to five-sixths the cost of a treatment. Check beforehand with your private health care provider.
