What does Chiropractic help with?

Pain! We all suffer from some type of pain. Chiropractic helps eliminate pain by normalising
imbalances in the body that result in pain.
Chiropractic can help with:
- Back pain
- Headaches
- Migraines
- Shoulder pain
- Jaw pain
- Knee and ankle pain
- Sciatica
- And many more.
By relieving this pain, there will often be follow-on effects and so can help improve:
- Energy
- Sleep
- Immunity
- Posture
- Flexibility
- Strength
- Slow the degeneration of joints
- And many more.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a complementary and alternative health care system that focuses on assessment, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic treatment addresses these mechanical disorders by normalising and freeing up movement at joints, and thereby removing any interference to the Nervous System so it may work optimally.
Why is it important to have a optimally functioning Nervous System?
The Nervous System controls absolutely every cell and system in the body, so by having a nervous system that functions optimally we have a body that functions optimally. The body is exceptionally capable of healing, given the correct environment, such as adequate rest, nutrition and properly functioning nervous system.
What is the Musculoskeletal System?
The Musculoskeletal System consists of bones, muscles, joints and ligaments and tendons that make up the body and allow it to be upright and to have movement. The skeleton is the framework of the body. Of this, the spine is made of 24 movable bones, 23 discs and has attachments for 12 sets of ribs and hunreds of ligaments and muscles. It supports and protects the spinal cord, and allows 31 pairs of nerves pass from the spinal cord through small openings to muscles, organs, bones and skin.
What are Biomechanical imbalances?
Because of this complexity of the spine, its normal movements can be disrupted in many ways. Falls, incorrect lifting, stress, repetitive movements, faulty posture and even illness may cause disruption of the normal mechanics of the spine. With these changes to the biomechanics there is disrupted joint movement which results in irritation to the nerves as they exit the spinal column. As nerves send messages and impulses to muscles and organs, these changed biomechanics can affect overall health and wellbeing as well as mobility. These biomechaincal changes will also result in irritation around the joint and usually in some inflammation and muscle spasm. This muscle spasm and inflammation are often the symptoms common in back or neck pain.
How does Chiropractic help?
If the biomechanics are correct than the body is strong and moves easily and efficiently, and is resistant to any stressors that it may come across. Chiropractic works to improve and normalise the biomechanics by correcting any joint misalignment, and by normalising muscle length and tension. Chiropractors realign the joints using a wide range of safe and gentle techniques. This results in less muscle spasm, tension and pain, and improved flexibility and strength. Improved spinal alignment will help remove any interference to your nervous system, and so as the nervous system controls every cell and system in the body, a nervous system that works well and without any interference will result in a body that works well and have improved health.
If the misalignment and therefore poor biomechanics continues, over time you body will set up compensations to help cope with these changes. These compensations commonly result in pain and muscle spasm in these areas of compensation. Over a longer period of time these changes to the biomechanics and the way the bones and joints move can set up deteriorating which can result in arthritis and degeneration of the joints. For this reason it is important to keep your spine and musculoskeletal system healthy and well maintained, and the more we put our body through the more maintainence it needs. This is similar to a car that needs to be serviced on a regular basis to make sure each part is moving and functioning well. The more we drive it the more often it needs servicing. If it doesn’t get serviced, over time it will begin to sound rough and eventually the car will break down or the engine may even seize up.
